Have you ever wondered how to reach that next level of success in your marriage or career? What if I told you it could all be achieved for little to no money? Impossible! Read on, my friends!
The number one way to increase your success in any area of life is to read more! Let’s look at several reasons why if you want to be more you need to read more.
#1: Read more because it increases your knowledge.
If you want to learn something, pick up a book that can teach you! Cookbooks, foreign languages, knitting, painting – the possibilities are endless.
Everything you need for a better future and success has already been written. – Jim Rohn
But Johnny, I don’t have time to pick up a book and read because I work such long hours! Welcome to 2017 where there are so many options for “reading” more.
There are audiobooks, books read on podcasts, and even recordings put on websites like Youtube for you to listen to. So, if you really want to be more, you need to read more (or listen to more).
How much should you be reading? I know there are people who really push themselves to read 100 pages a day or even 100 books a year, but I think you have to set a goal that fits you.
Most books can be read in about a month if you set aside 15-20 minutes a day, so pick something like 8-12 books this next year. It is completely doable and just think how much smarter you will be one year from now!
#2: Read more because it allows you to learn from other’s experiences.
There really is no better way to move forward faster than those who have gone before you than to read about their journey. You don’t have to wait to simply go through the same exact situation. Read the biography of your favorite leaders and learn from their mistakes.
If you don’t know where to start, I suggest biographies of famous inventors or high achievers like George Washington Carver, Albert Einstein, and Winston Churchill. The inspiration alone in the travesties they overcame to still achieve great success is encouraging!
When my wife and I first wanted to learn how to cook with more plant-based ingredients we started reading blogs and bought several cookbooks. We could have just tried it all on our own, but we would have failed miserably and probably given up too soon!
Instead, we became successful at cooking plant-based meals very quickly and have continued to cook that way for the last two years.
What are you waiting for? Start reading and get on the faster path to success!
#3: Read more because it breeds imagination.
My favorite reason to read more is that it breeds imagination. Many speakers may tell you to read more self-help and how-to books for success, but I would challenge that there needs to be a mix of good fiction stories too.
I will never forget where books could take me as a young boy. I became the family that lived on the island in The Swiss Family Robinson. I was following Frodo on his journey to Mordor in The Fellowship of the Rings.
When imagination is a daily part of your life, I believe you can start to see solutions to the problems you face. Your brain needs a break from all your to-do lists and schedules.
What if the perfect dose of mental vitamins is a good mystery or science fiction novel?
No matter how you start, begin to read more now. There really is no better way to grow and reach higher levels of success. Be more. Read more.
