As summer is fading into fall, I have begun to hear lots of people say things like, “It’s almost fall? Where did summer go? Or where has the time gone?” Questions like these always make me smile because I stop and think to myself, “Time hasn’t gone anywhere.” Time is a constant thing in our lives-so constant that we schedule and plan things according to specific time slots. So, if you find yourself like many others wondering where the time went, start asking these questions instead.
- What are your top 3 MEMORIES from the last 90 days?
Did you and your family take any trips or spend more time with each other? I bet if you looked back at the last 3 months, you would be able to cherish the memories you have made. The hustle and bustle of typical life causes us to forget the special moments that make life what it is – a grand adventure! Get a pen and paper out and write down every memory you can think of over the past 3 months, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised what great times you have already had.
- What are your top 3 ACCOMPLISHMENTS from the last 90 days?
Was there a new recipe you finally tried for that summer barbecue? Did you get a promotion at work? Did you start writing your book that you’ve been “working on” for years? It really does not matter how “small” the accomplishment is. All that matters is for you to find the wins you have had and let yourself feel good that you accomplished them! Celebration is so important in our lives, so don’t let your small victories pass without giving a cheer or two!
- What were your top 3 CHALLENGES over the last 90 days?
This question is a little more difficult to answer because our tendency can be to list out all of the “bad” things that are happening in our lives and just leave the list there. I want to encourage you to re-frame your list of “bad” things into challenges that you faced. For instance, if you ate more unhealthy food than you wanted to, maybe you could say that you learned that you should eat a small meal before you attend that picnic or barbecue in the future. This strategy helps to put you in the driver seat of your life. There are so few things that just “happen” to us in life.
So, don’t let time “pass you by”. Start taking control of your life today. Be honest with where you are and act in a way that moves you to a better tomorrow.
Stay encouraged, my friends!
