Why You Should Start Walking to Be More Balanced

Is it too soon to be setting your goals for 2018?  I don’t think so.  But what goals should you set?  What if I told you just start walking this next year and forget the rest?  Would you do it?

Start Walking to Become Balanced

Now I know you may be thinking, Johnny, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, why in the world would I be thinking about my goals for 2018?  Well, the alternative would be to wait until a few days before the New Year, and that’s fine really.  But, how successful are those who set New Years Resolutions at actually keeping them?

I don’t know statistics, but from personal experience, I never accomplished most of my goals.

So, this year I want to encourage you to just do one thing: start walking.  Yes, that’s it.  Just start walking.  Now.

Start walking to improve your balance.

Walking improves your balance.  It really does.

According to Harvard Health Publishing, “walking helps build the lower-body strength-an important element of good balance.”  In addition to building strong legs and lower muscles, I believe a good walk just makes you feel more balanced.

When I’m overwhelmed with projects or too many decisions there is nothing quite like a 15-minute walk outside to restore balance to my thoughts.

So, try it yourself!  Just give yourself 10 minutes every day to start walking and improve your balance.

Start walking to increase your success.

What does walking have to do with increased success?  When we start walking, we are physically making our bodies better. Here’s what I mean.

The increased blood flow that it takes to perform just 10 minutes of walking causes your lungs to expand and bring more oxygen into your body.  That oxygen eventually makes its way into your bloodstream which makes you feel more awake and alive.

Some of my best blog post ideas come when I just start walking.  I am able to see things clearly and give myself a mental lift that I know increases my success for that day and even into the future.

Start walking to induce other habits.

Most of the time we don’t finish our yearly resolutions because we try to set too many.  But if all you did was decide right now that you should start walking, I think you’d find that the end of 2018 you may have a brand new body.

Yes, the initial habit of walking turned into getting better sleep, eating cleaner foods, working out consistently, and thinking better thoughts about your life.

That can all happen if you take action and start walking now.  I would encourage you to not wait until the end of this next month or until after the holidays.  Just do it.

You are no good to anyone else if you can’t take care of your own body.  God did not put us here on this earth to simply exist.  We should thrive!

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. – Proverbs 13:20 NLT
